Gallery Owner and Director: Dedee Shattuck
Dedee Shattuck grew up on Barney’s Joy Farm in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She studied interior design in New York City in the 1970s, where she met her future husband, artist William Shattuck. The couple moved back to Dartmouth in the early 80’s to pursue their art interests and raise their two sons, Will and Ben.
Valuing the open space of her childhood, Shattuck has participated in land conservation efforts across Southeastern Massachusetts and been instrumental in ecosystem preservation through work with Massachusetts Audubon, Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, and SEMAP (Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership). Early to realize the link between sustainable, local agriculture and land preservation, she published Farmers: Portraits in a Changing Landscape, celebrating New England’s cultural history of small-scale farming.
Pat Coomey Thornton is the brilliant designer behind our website, invitation cards, advertisements, and promotional materials. She is an invaluable member of the Dedee Shattuck Gallery team. Pat is also a phenomenal painter and textile designer, and is known for creating unique scarf and textile designs using imagery from her paintings. Her paintings, like Pat, are exuberant, expressive, and beautiful.
Pat recieved her BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art, and her MFA in Painting, with a minor in Art History from the Pius XII Institute in Florence Italy.
